A no-prep art sub plan for the weeks before break
The last two weeks before winter break are when art teachers get pulled into concerts, meetings and sick days. Our Teens & Adults Art Sub Plan sets are built for that. Each set starts with a one-page plan a substitute can follow without an art background: supplies, a short lesson focus (warm and cool light, depth, overlap), steps and an early-finisher task. Students choose a scene and color for the period.
The scenes are layered, with a foreground, middle ground and background, so students practice making near objects bold and far objects soft. They fit grades 6 to 12, electives, advisory and the half-day before break, and the finished pages make a quick holiday display.
For adults coloring at home
If you color to unwind, these are cozy rather than overwhelming: clear shapes and a few focal points, not tiny cells. A page is a good evening with a playlist and hot cocoa, and a finished one makes a hand-colored card or gift tag.
Print tips
For the best results:
- Print portrait at 100% on US Letter ('fit to page' on A4).
- Use cardstock for markers and alcohol markers; regular paper is fine for colored pencils.
- Choose 'high' print quality so fine lines stay crisp.
- Metallic gel pens on ornaments and lights are a nice finishing touch.

Christmas coloring pages for adults FAQ
Is the Christmas coloring page really free?
Yes. The cabin Christmas tree page downloads as a PDF with no sign-up. It is a real page from our Cozy Cabin set.
What grades are the art sub plans for?
Middle and high school, about grades 6 to 12, and adults. The plan page tells a substitute exactly what to do.
How detailed are the pages?
Moderately detailed: layered scenes with depth and clear shapes rather than tiny cells. Most people finish a page in one to two hours.
What should we color with?
Colored pencils on regular paper, or markers and gel pens on cardstock. The pages are black line art on white and print fine in black and white.
Can I copy them for my class?
Yes. Print copies for your own students. Please don't share the PDF with other teachers or upload it to shared drives.
